Twenty-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON / MANUFACTURERS / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes, stenciled cornucopias, stenciled roses and other stenciled flourishes, and a stenciled "20" flanked by stenciled foliate designs at base. Professional restoration to cracks in front, including one restored crack which extends around shoulder partway onto reverse. Two restoration spots where cracks meet rim. Three large chips to interior of rim.
