Four-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Philadelphia, PA origin, mid 19th century, cylindrical cooler with tapered shoulder, squared rim, ribbed lug handles, and circular bung hole. The front decorated with a three-stemmed flowering plant design below a horizontal floral garland. Additional leaves or flower blossoms below rim. Reverse with two-stemmed flower design and additional decoration at shoulder. Vertical cobalt stripes under each handle. Cobalt around bunghole. Significant restoration to reverse and side of cooler including one handle, extending to right edge of decoration on front, with some light touch-up to decoration on top right of cooler's front. Sealed cracks in underside. Short, minor line in bunghole.
