Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Bedpan with Applied Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. HEART," Jacob Heart, Chambersburg, PA, second quarter 19th century, rounded form with tubular spout, the surface decorated with mottled manganese over a colorful orange ground, and covered in a heavy lead glaze. Molded and applied clay decoration of a flower flanked by leaves applied below the spout. Underside impressed with the large, raised-faced maker's mark, "J. HEART". One of a small number of examples signed by this important and highly-skilled Franklin County, PA potter. Excellent condition with two minor glaze flakes to underside, a small glaze flake to spout, and a 1 3/8" in-the-firing contact mark to edge. L 16".
