Rare Stoneware Canning Jar with Intricate Federal Eagle Stenciling, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, tapered canning jar with sloped shoulder and rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a finely stenciled Federal eagle surrounded by Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, further encircled by a geometric sunburst design of circles and triangles. Highly unusual decoration for pieces of this size. X-shaped hairlines on underside. Hairlines at base. A few minor chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 8 1/4".
