Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two slip-trailed birds with crests and long tails, perched in stylized branches. Excellent decoration by the most well-known New England stoneware pottery. Two small base chips and a shallow chip to top of rim.
