Exceptional Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical cooler with stepped shoulder, ribbed lug handles, and circular bung hole, the front decorated with a highly unusual triple-stemmed floral motif. Reverse with large split-stemmed flowering plant with fan-shaped blossoms. The clover and fan-shaped floral designs on this cooler are Baltimore motifs, suggesting its maker previously worked there. 6 1/2" crack on reverse. 2 3/4" hairline from rim above one handle. Shallow chip on interior of rim. H 13 3/8".
