Redware Ant Trap, Mid-Atlantic origin, possibly Baltimore, 19th century, with tapered walls, original hole at base, and recessed opening at top. Tooled lines around body allow ants to climb to the opening. A smooth clear lead glaze applied to the interior shoulder causes the ants to slide into the vessel, trapped. Base and rim chips. H 4" ; D 6".
