Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE, NY," circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a cobalt design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stump flanked by shrubs. Several hairlines in underside, one of which continues onto base where it forms a Y. Two thin cracks from rim, measuring 4 1/2" and 1 1/2". Base chip on reverse. A few rim chips. H 9 1/4".
