Rare and Fine Glazed Presentation Redware Puzzle Jug, Dated 1838, English origin, ovoid form with rounded rim and tubular pouring spout, the collar with pierced cross and circle motifs, the surface decorated with splashed copper over yellowish slip. Incised on one side with a large tulip, and on the opposite side with a large bird and small tulip. Incised within a scalloped border "A Groves / September 20 1838 / With liquer good / Pray fill me full / That everyone / May drink / Their fill". Restored spout. Glaze flakes to rim. Glaze flake to base. H 8".
