Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Churn, Stamped "B B C," Burlon B. Craig, Vale, NC, 20th century, ovoid vessel with tall collar and applied pocket handles, the front decorated with a large applied face featuring china teeth and incised beard and eyebrows. Surface covered in a dark olive alkaline glaze. Impressed "B B C" on underside. Additionally stamped "2" under handle and on shoulder. A fine example of Craig’s earlier work. Provenance: Purchased directly from Craig at a Smithsonian Craft Show in the early 1980’s. Mint condition. H 15 1/2".
