Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO, / PARKERSBURG, W. Va.," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and heavily-ribbed handles, the front decorated with a cobalt 3 within an elaborately-stenciled border, the maker's name in large bold letters, and a stenciled federal eagle holding olive branches and arrows. Base with stenciled foliate decoration. A fine example of Donaghho stoneware. Provenance: Tom McCandless Collection, Hopewell, NJ. Two chips to one handle. Chip to opposite handle. Chip and very minor nicks to interior of rim. H 13 1/2".
