Westerwald Stoneware "GR" Jug, German origin, circa 1740, bulbous jug with tooled foot and heavily-tooled collar, decorated with incised flower petals surrounding a crowned "GR" medallion. Central design is flanked by incised scrolls. Cobalt highlights to decoration and bands at base and collar. Found in the Suwannee River, which extends from Southern Georgia to Northern Florida, and may have been an Indian trade item. One glazed-over and one post-firing chip to handle. Some smoothness and lack of shine to surface, due to its time submerged in a river. 1 1/2" in-the-firing spider line on reverse, extending from a stone ping. H 7".
