Very Rare and Fine Westerwald Stoneware Jar with Applied Coat of Arms, German origin, circa 1680, square section jar with rounded foot and rim, decorated on four sides with coat of arms of Anselem Francis von Ingelheim, Archbishop Elector of Mainz from 1679-1695. Applied shell-like designs to corners on shoulder and near base. Surface highlighted in bold cobalt slip. This form may have served as a tobacco jar. Near mint condition with a minor 1/2" flake at base, connected to a faint 1/2" line. H 7 1/2".
