Three-Gallon Misshapen Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, ovoid, bowl-shaped jar with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with brushed cobalt swags over whitish slip. Given its flawed, highly irregular form, which was created during the firing, it is surprising that this jar has survived for so many years. Jar is significantly out of round, and appears oval from above. Hairlines on underside, which spread onto wall of in the form of cracks. H 10 1/2".
