Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Bowl with Lid, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, squat-shaped bowl with rounded sides, tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with eight brushed cobalt swags. Includes stoneware lid with similar swag decoration, stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," which is probably not original to the bowl. Long, thin horizontal line at base of bowl. 3" thin y-shaped line in midsection of bowl. Base chip. Lid is slightly warped, but is in nearly as-made condition with very minor wear to flange on underside. H 6 1/4" ; Diameter 8 1/2". Diameter of lid 8 1/2".
