Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Bird in Wreath Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA," circa 1860, large-sized cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles. Handles perforated to allow for a metal bail handle. Front of crock decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt bird-on-branch surrounded by a large and elaborate wreath. An outstanding decoration by perhaps the most well-known New York State potting firm. Provenance: Part of a collection consigned from Oregon. Curving 12" crack extending up from base on front. Otherwise mint condition. H 14 1/2".
