Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped Twice "SAM'L. I. IRVINE / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with a large cobalt flowering vine design. Impressed with cobalt-highlighted mark of Samuel Irvine on the shoulder of both sides. Large rim chips. Y-shaped crack extending from rim and under one handle. Stone ping on one side. Fry to cobalt. A short in-the firing vertical separation line at base, continuing a short distance onto underside. H 10".
