Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to Dave the Slave, Lewis Miles' Stoney Bluff Manufactory, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and large pocket-like handles. Jar incised with an "X" along with two slash marks on the shoulder. Surface covered in a green alkaline glaze. Includes letter of authenticity from Stephen Ferrell. Entire top of rim missing. Heavy chipping to one handle. Approximately 6 1/2" in-the-firing flake to bottom of jar at edge. 3 3/8" hairline on underside, continuing 2 3/4" up side of jar. H 10 1/2".
