Rare Glazed Redware Figure of a Standing Dog with Tree Stump, PA origin, circa 1850-1880, hand-modeled figure of a smooth-coated, standing dog with incised tail, ears, toes, and facial details, its front legs resting on the edge of a hollowed tree stump, likely designed to serve as a match or pipe holder. Stump is heavily incised to simulate bark. Dog and stump are situated on an oval base with flowerhead stamped at the center and impressed circles around the edge. Surface decorated with daubs of manganese and covered in a lead glaze. Loss to rear of base. Additional 1" chip to base. H 4 1/2" ; L 4 1/4".
