Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Outstanding Cobalt Bird and Floral Decoration, Stamped "W A MACQUOID & CO / POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE WST 12TH ST NY," circa 1870, large-sized cylindrical crock with tooled rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate, artistically-rendered flowering plant and bird design. Bird depicted with long tail and ringed neck, perched on a flower blossom, its head bent towards a leaf. A fine example which exhibits the painterly nature of much of Macquoid's stoneware decoration. Rim chips. Chipping to one handle. Small chip to opposite handle. Some staining to front. H 13 1/2".
