Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Daisy Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles, decorated with bold slip-trailed cobalt daisy decoration with shaded leaves and petals. Slip-trailed "5" to right of maker's mark. 4" faint Y-shaped line on reverse, which does not extend through to interior. 5 1/2" sealed crack from rim with 1" piece reglued at rim. Small rim chips. Thin stripe of wear around midsection. Some spots of fry to cobalt. H 12 1/4".
