Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Artistic Cobalt Bird on Stump Decoration, Stamped "CLARK & Co. / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, 1840, ovoid jug with thick spout, decorated with an artistically-rendered, slip-trailed cobalt design of a long-tailed bird with shaded breast, perched on a stump accented with grass below. A bush with dotted berries or flowers extends from the stump to the right of the bird. Slip-trailed "3" above decoration. A fine example of Rochester stoneware. Restored handle. Restoration to spout. Spots of fry to cobalt. H 17".
