Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with two brushed cobalt flowers. Additional cobalt swags around shoulder and dashed brushwork under each handle. Flaking to surface of butter crock. Base chips, handle chips, and large horizontal crack around body. Lid with chips to knob and heavy chipping to flange on underside. H 5 1/2 ; Diameter 8 3/4".
