Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, ovoid jar with thick squared rim and large ribbed handles, decorated front and back with a flowering stem bearing three large dotted tulips. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark on front and back. Outstanding size and decoration. Restored cracks on one side, including painting of some of the decoration. 2" line from base on opposite side, which does not go through to interior. A few shallow chips on interior of rim. Shallow chip at base. H 16 3/8".
