Two Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Norton Family, Bennington, VT, circa 1820s, both of ovoid, handled form, one stamped "BENNINGTON / FACTORY," with brushed floral motif and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and handle terminals, the other stamped "L. NORTON / BENNINGTON," with brushed abstract foliate motif and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and capacity mark. Included with the jars are fitting 19th century Albany-slip-glazed and salt-glazed lid, not original to the jars. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Bennington Factory jar with very large reglued section to base/underside, small rim chips, and matte areas to surface. Other jar in very nice condition with a few rim chips, an iron ping at base on reverse, and traces of old black paint to surface. Chips to lids. H (of taller) 12 1/2".
