One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, thick, squared rim, and extruded lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a large spotted tulip, applied over whitish slip. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on reverse, forming a large Y on underside, additionally forming a small inverted Y at base. Body with surface wear and in-the-firing contact marks. H 10 1/2".
