Rare Manganese-Decorated Redware Ring Bottle, TN or possibly NC origin, circa 1840-1880, hollow, ring-shaped form with applied, tapering spout featuring distinctive stepped mouth, decorated on the front and reverse with oval daubs of manganese slip, separated by a brushed manganese stripe along the edge, joining a manganese band around the neck. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Variants of this bottle's distinctive spout can be found on pieces by various makers from Tennessee, primarily Sullivan County, as well as North Carolina. Excellent condition with minor surface wear and minor chipping to spout. L 9 1/8".
