Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES, / PITTSTON, PA.," circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with an unusual slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing two large blossoms. Cobalt accents to maker's mark, capacity mark, and unusual crosshatched circles flanking the capacity mark. Spots of fry to cobalt. Crack on reverse. A minor chip to proper right handle. A minuscule nick to proper left handle. A few minor in-the-firing surface flaws including a light salt drip to rim area on front. A small amount of black residue to reverse. H 13 3/8".
