Fine Stoneware Jar with Incised Bird and Floral Decorations, Albany, NY area, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, applied lug handles, and tooled shoulder with flaring collar, decorated with a large, incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a leaf. Reverse decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted daisy motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Bird motifs of the style seen on this jar are frequently attributed to potter, George Lent, based on signed examples of his work during his tenure in Troy, New York during the 1820s. Proper right handle restored. Restored rim chips. A few small unrestored rim chips. Coloring to a 2" section of an in-the-firing fissure on interior of rim/shoulder area. A 3" line from rim on reverse. A few base chips. A small piece of adhered clay below bird decoration. H 12".
