Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with "HEAD OF STEAMBOAT LANDING / POMROY OHIO" Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "J. A. FRANZ. / GROCERIES / & / LIQUORS. / HEAD OF STEAMBOAT / LANDING / POMROY OHIO." Some chipping to shoulder molding and underside of rim. Otherwise as-made condition with a slight indentation to reverse at base, which includes an in-the-firing contact mark and shallow in-the-firing chip. A small in-the-firing ping beside stenciling. H 8 1/8".
