Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "C.F. HETZEL / & CO. / CUMBERLAND / MD.," Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid-bellied pitcher with tall, flaring collar and heavily tooled rim, featuring the stenciled advertising "C.F. HETZEL / & CO. / CUMBERLAND / MD," flanked by stylized flowers. Freehand dash decoration along spout and stripe at base of pitcher. The only Cumberland advertising pitcher that we have ever offered. Loss to spout, partially glazed over. An additional spout chip. A 1 1/2" chipped section to interior of rim. Other smaller rim chips. Some light staining and light surface wear to pitcher. H 10".
