Fine Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Atchison, New Geneva, PA, circa 1860, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and narrow "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a large brushed design of a tulip emanating from a long, looping stem. The most brilliantly colored Atchison canner that we have offered. A small in-the-firing contact mark to central petal of flower. A salt drip to shoulder. Reverse with a salt drip and piece of adhered clay, beside a small in-the-firing contact mark. A 1" flake to top of rim. Wear to top of rim and small chips to interior of rim. Wear to interior of inner wax sealer rim. A few base chips. Some staining. H 8 1/2".
