Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapering jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "JAMES M. POLING . / DEALERS IN / DRY GOODS & / GENERAL / MERCHANDISE. / JACKSON C.H. W. VA." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Light surface wear to midsection on reverse / proper right side of jar. Some orange-colored residue to shoulder on proper right side. Chips to interior of rim. Two minor chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 10".
