Very Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "MILLERS POTTERY. / P.O. / RACCOON, / W.VA.," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring arched "MILLERS POTTERY" stenciling above a stenciled "2." Only the second example from this pottery that we have offered. A horizontal crack at base, forming a long, tight Y on underside. An in-the-firing surface chip (contact mark) to shoulder. An in-the-firing contact mark above maker's mark and at rim on reverse. Light surface wear. H 11 7/8".
