One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "R.B Co," attributed to Thomas Haig, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and extruded lug handles, brush-decorated with diagonal tulip motifs on the front and reverse in the Haig style. Front incised with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "R.B. Co," possibly referring to the pottery at which it was made, but more likely referring to a merchant for which Thomas Haig, Jr. produced stoneware. Cobalt highlights surrounding handles and wavy line of cobalt below each handle. A few small rim chips. An in-the-firing separation along bottom edge of proper right handle. Some light bubbling to cobalt. Some minor residue to surface. H 7 3/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 8".
