Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, Stamped "RCR / PHILA," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical form with extruded lug handles, decorated on front and reverse with groups of leaves emanating from a wavy stem. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and wavy line of cobalt beneath each handle. Impressed under one handle with Richard C. Remmey maker's mark. Includes possibly-original lid with cobalt swag decoration. Crock with a 3 1/2" line to underside, not visible on interior, a small chip to one handle, light wear to edges of each handle, and a minuscule rim nick. Knob of lid with a 3/4" chip and two hairlines, in otherwise excellent condition. Diam. (of crock) 7 7/8"; H (including lid) 6 1/4" ; Diam. (of lid) 8 3/4".
