Glazed Redware Dish with Spattered Three-Color Slip Decoration, attributed to Solomon Loy, Alamance County, NC, circa 1825-1840, thin-walled dish with semi-squared rim, the interior decorated with dramatic spattered application of copper, manganese, and cream-colored slips under a clear lead glaze. Loy dishes of this type are among his rarest, prized for their expressiveness and a modern aesthetic far ahead of their time. Typical heavy wear to interior. Shallow rim chips and rim wear. Some surface-level wear to the unglazed exterior. Diam. 8 3/4" ; H 1 5/8".
