Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed floral spray accented with spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. A 2 1/4" hairline from rim on front. A reglued 1 3/8" piece at rim on reverse beside a small chip. Paper residue to rim. A small chip to proper left handle. Staining to surface. A small in-the-firing iron ping to base. H 10 1/4".
