Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT:," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a leaf accented with a dotted trails. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. A 1 1/2" line to underside, continuing 2 1/2" up front of jug. In-the-firing flaws including salt drips to surface, a few pings to surface, and a small bubbled spot at tip of bird's tail. Staining to surface. Two minor base chips to proper left side of jug. H 14".
