Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird and Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & Co / GEDDES, N.Y.," circa 1850, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a flowering perched on a cluster with flower emanating from it. A second flower emanates from above the bird's tail. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder and cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable Farrar motif. A sealed 6" diagonal crack from rim on front and a sealed 5" vertical crack from rim on front, including a small rim chip. A 3 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. A minor rim chip above proper right handle. A thin 5" crack to underside, continuing 3" diagonally up base on reverse, extending through some shallow in-the-firing base chipping. A nick and minor wear to proper left handle. Some light staining. H 10 3/8" ; Diam. (at rim) 10 3/4".
