Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Brown family, Alleghany County, VA, third quarter 19th century, ovoid, vase-like jar with tooled rim, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a double-leafed foliate motif. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Rim chips. Surface wear. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing chip to underside. A small chip and in-the-firing stone ping to base. Surface wear. A thin 2 1/2" crack from rim. A 2 1/2" hairline ascending base. H 10 1/2".
