Early-Period Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Applied Floral Decoration, Signed and Dated "Lm / 10-68," Lanier Meaders, Cleveland, GA, 1968, ovoid pitcher with tooled midsection and short, flaring collar, decorated on one side with a hand-modeled and applied dogwood flower. Surface covered in a brown Albany-slip-type glaze with greenish cast over a red clay ground. The lighter clay used to create the flower blossom gives it a different shade of brown. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders's script initials, "Lm," a desirable, early form of signature for this potter, followed by the unusual addition of its date of manufacture, "10-68." Provenance: Frank W. White Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8".
