Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Motif, attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, highly-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, tall neck, and semi-rounded mouth, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a heavily-scaled fish. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Two in-the-firing spout chips. A spider crack on underside, part of which extends several inches up front and reverse of jug, as well as onto base on left and right sides of jug. Base chips. A 1" narrow chip at base. Other shallow chipping to base, primarily in the firing, some of which is glazed over. Surface with some staining and small, typical in-the-firing iron deposits, as well as a small surface chip below midsection on front. H 16".
