Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON.N.Y," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird with spotted wing and striped body, perched on a vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some dark surface-level crazing to proper left side of jar. Reverse with two salt drips and a 2" worn area. Discolored in-the-firing contact marks to base. H 10 7/8".
