Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fanned tail, perched on a vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes Albany-slip-glazed lid. A small in-the-firing chip to rim on front. Shallow chipping and wear around inner rim for lid. A 1 3/4" hairline from rim on proper right side of churn. Colored chips to lid. H (excluding lid) 13 1/4".
