One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fat-bodied bird perched a tree stump. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable size and design. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A 1 1/2" flake to handle, possibly in-the-firing. H 11 1/4".
