Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Rock Teeth, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA, circa early 1970s, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face including kaolin eyes with black-slip pupils, heavily-incised lashes, ears, pointed nose, open mouth with quartz teeth, and broad chin. Surface covered in an dark-brown, Albany-slip-type glaze over a red clay body, the glaze and clay used both being unusual for this maker. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders signature. As-made condition with a loss to two rock teeth (possibly in-the-firing), significant in-the-firing glaze spalling, and a glazed-over chip to spout. H 11 1/2".
