Exceptional Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to the B.F. Landrum Pottery, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, third quarter 19th century, highly-ovoid jar with tapered rim and arched tab handles, decorated with a sophisticated alkaline glaze composed of glossy, olive-colored striation over a mottled gray, brown, and blackish ground. A visually powerful example of the Southern stoneware aesthetic. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Rim chips. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing base chip, which is partially glazed-over. H 13 3/4".
