Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Bowl with Kaolin Slip Decoration, Stamped "CHANDLER / MAKER," Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, flaring form with semi-rounded rim and arched tab handles, decorated on the front, reverse, and below each handle with scalloped line design in slip-trailed kaolin slip. Gray-green alkaline-glazed ground with appealing bluish glaze runs descending from the shoulder on exterior and interior. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. An in-the-firing fissure to the terminals of the proper right handle. A small chip to proper right handle. A tight line across underside, extending a short distance onto front and reverse base. An approximately 3 1/2" tight diagonal line at base on reverse. Two short, minor surface lines to interior base, not visible on exterior. H 6 3/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 9 1/4".
