Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware South Carolina Dispensary Jug, Stamped "S.C. DISPENSARY," attributed to J. G. Baynham, Trenton, Edgefield District, SC, late 19th century, cylindrical jug with dramatically-tapered shoulder and semi-squared spout, the surface covered in a mottled olive-green alkaline glaze. Impressed on reverse of jug with an image of a palmetto tree flanked by the initials "S C" above the word, "DISPENSARY." Provenance: A fifty-year SC collection. Two large flakes to underside. Base and spout chips. Some in-the-firing clay residue to shoulder area. Light surface wear. H 9 3/4".
